At Design Miami 2007, Demisch Danant will present a rare selection of 1980's West German avant-garde designs. Intent on realizing social, political and philosophical ideas through the production of everyday objects, the 1980's German designers departed radically from the Western design approach of their predecessors. Unconcerned with producing new products and unwilling to claim allegiance to any single ideology or aesthetic, the 'anti-designs' of the German 80's speak to the contradictions and uncertainties definitive of the divided German post-modern experience. Examples on display will be rare works by Cologne's Pentagon Group, Stefan Zwicky's concrete chair sculpture and Herbert Jacob Weinand's 'Bullet-Proof Glass Table, a unique work incorporating a piece of bullet cracked glass taken from a 1969 Munich bank robbery.

Alongside the German designs, Demisch Danant will display other examples of radical post-modern European design, including the 1980's French works of Francois Arnal & Christian Germanaz, as well as an example of Italian designer Enzo Mari's 1974 Autoprogettazione collection. Finally, three pieces from Maria Pergays 2007 collection will also be on few, recent examples of Pergay's devoted and mastered relationship with stainless steel.

Design Miami/Basel provides a unique platform in which to present new ideas in design, not just aesthetically but conceptual as well. Demisch Danant is pleased to participate in an international arena that actively promotes the larger understanding of design in general and puts the gallery in touch with a community of collectors eager to assimilate these ideas.
