Krijn de Koning at Design Miami
Nov 30- Dec 5, 2010Design Miami has commissioned Dutch artist Krijn de Koning to create a special installation for this year's fair. De Koning's work, often temporary site-specific installations, deals with the inter-relation between architecture and the way the observer or participant perceives the space. For Design Miami, de Koning will create several 'gathering' areas within the fair in which people can sit, rest, and talk to one another. This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the Netherlands Cultural Services (New York)

Krijn de Koning in De Nieuwe Kerk
Aug 27 - Oct 24, 2010Marking De Nieuwe Kerk's 600th anniversary, Krijn de Koning has constructed an accessible 800-square-meter floor on 5-meter-high scaffolding in the interior of the Amsterdam church, incorporating the columns and the roof of the sculpted pulpit by Albert Jansz Vinckenbrinck (1649-1664). Visitors can also look down at Johannes Lutma’s gilded choir screen (1654), and an accessible 2.5-meter-high 'sunk' space with six rooms installed in the middle of the church floor.

This exhibition explores the prodigious renaissance in furniture design in France from 1945 to 1975. Pressing social and economic conditions following the war as well as the advent of new materials produced a virtual explosion in creativity by a young generation of designers including Pierre Paulin, Joseph-Andre Motte, Pierre Guariche and Olivier Mourgue. The new approach to manufacturing and distribution also fueled their innovative movement.
