She may be 82 years old, but Maria Pergay continues to innovate her works in metal. While her pioneering stainless steel furniture pieces from the late 1960’s revel in minimalism, Pergay’s latest exhibit "Secret Garden" at Demisch Danant New York reveals more depth and detail. Inspired by her friends and private clients, Pergay contrives the magical by venturing into sculpture with a handcrafted six-foot bronze tree, adorned with red patinated copper leaves, and a whimsical vanity table lined in pink velvet and embellished with metal leaves. Blouin ARTINFO spoke with curator Suzanne Demisch to find out more about Pergay’s motivation behind each fairytale work.
